The DAC (Spanish acronym) rate is the additional cost applied to domestic services that exceed the established average annual consumption limit. In other words, if in the last 365 days your monthly energy consumption exceeds the limit according to local rates, you will be reclassified to the High Consumption Domestic rate (DAC)

“This rate will be applied to services that use energy exclusively for domestic purposes, individually to each residence, apartment, community of owners or dwelling, considered of high consumption or that, due to the characteristics of the service, are so required”.

High rates without government support

Hermosillo is one of the cities in the state of Sonora that is categorized under the 1F tariff. The user who has domestic electricity service from CFE in Hermosillo, upon exceeding the limit given by its rate (2,500 kWh/month) during one year, will enter or be reclassified from the 1F rate to the DAC (Domestic high consumption rate), thus losing governmental support and a considerable amount of money for time the user pays high energy rates.

Domestic rates 1 and 1A through 1F are established based on the average minimum temperature that exists in a certain region during the summer. To classify a locality in rate 1F, it must meet the requirement of recording, on average, a minimum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius (91 degrees Fahrenheit) for three or more consecutive years out of the last five years for which the corresponding information is available.

For example:

The state of Sonora experiences high temperatures during the hottest months of the year due to its desert climate. In the summer season of 2023 (taking as reference the range that includes the months of June to September) it registered the maximum temperature (average) of 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit) which could give it the title of being one of the hottest states in Mexico. It is important to keep in mind that temperatures may vary according to exact location, altitude and other geographical factors.

When you enter or are reclassified to the DAC rate, you will pay a higher fee for your energy consumption, because you will not have the government support (subsidy) that reduces your monthly bills.

Say no to the DAC  rate with Peak Energy and the ‘Net Metering’ system, a benefit for our customers. By sending excess energy back to the CFE grid, customers accumulate credits (valid annually) that can be used to reduce electricity usage during low generation periods, such as night time.

Solar panels also help reduce peak electricity demand, especially during hot summer days when many households use air-conditioning. Our service gives you the tranquility of maintaining a stable and responsible consumption.

Understanding what the DAC tariff is and how it affects your economy is knowledge that will help you manage your electricity costs optimally. Learn how net metering works in the CFE interconnection contract model.
